The Difference between Bitter and Sweet Apricot Kernels

March 31st, 2009 by heart_health

Aside from the obvious flavour differences, many are of the opinion that bitter apricot kernels possess a substance of therapeutic value. For bitter kernels contains Amygdalin which usually taste bitter but probably very rich of ingredients that fights cancer cells. The bitterness is famously indicative of this substance, hence the expression, ‘The bitter, the better’. Sweet apricot-kernels on the other hand, though lacking this characteristic, are a good alternative for almonds as a snack or ingredient. However, if it’s the bitter, marzipan qualities you require, bitter apricot kernels are the appropriate option.

Soup for the Cooks Soul

March 26th, 2009 by heart_health

Most people would just use a pinch of salt because they think that is enough to flavor the soup.
But there are better ways for a chef to make the soup taste better. It doesn’t require too much sodium.
First and foremost, reflect on the ingredients of the soup. Most of the time, veggies, herbs and bones are starting base for a good carab or fish soup.
If you want to reduce or increase the flavor of the soup - especially soup with crabs, you have to taste it between stirring.

Its up to you really.
You can reduce the soup by half if you feel that there is a lot more kick to it than you expected, but be ready to double the flavor if there comes a point that its bland.
If you’re trying to find that extra something that will make your soup stand out, add some wine, lemon or lim juice.
You can also spike it with vinegar. If you want more flavor to the meat, make sure that you sauté it in the pot.
You can add more oil or butter to the pot. You can also toss in chopped garlic and onion.

Utilize some time to saut all the ingredients and let the flavors mix into each other.
If your stew develops a slightly burnt flavor while cooking, add a splash of milk to balance the taste.
Ice cubes can also eliminate the fat portion from the soup as well as the stew. All you need are just a few into the pot and continue stirring.
The fat will attach to the ice cubes. Make sure to discard them before they completely melt.
Keep paper towels handy for skimming the surface with them.

Eventually, when you have to warm the soup up again, you should do it in a double boiler.
To ensure that the soup is rich in flavor, its ingredients are best retained with hot water.
A nice idea is to server some scallops with the soup.
The story is about a traveler who inquires after a night’s rest with a man and his wife.
He claimed he could make a stew that would make my test buds sing with just a plain old rock.
The stew he cooked for the husband and wife had a delicious flavor since the people gave him the ingredients he required to fix the stew.

The Best Anti Aging Techniques

March 23rd, 2009 by heart_health

Stress Management

If there’s one thing that causes premature aging more than anything else, it has to be stress. It not only has serious consequences to our health, it can also seriously effect the quality of life. Until recently, people would have ridiculed the idea that a mental problem could have such an impact on the physical level. However, more and more scientific evidence is showing that the mind and body are more closely linked than originally thought. Stress can’t be controlled by the mind alone because the chemical activity of the brain is a lot to do with our interaction with the world on a physical level.[/spin It has a lot to do with our habits, lifestyle and environment which all take place on a physical level. But what actually happens when we are stressed?

A stressful event can cause a number of things to happen. The adrenal glands pump adrenaline into the body and both heart rate and blood pressure increase. Fat and sugar enter the bloodstream to prepare for a ‘fight or flight’ response and the stress hormone cortisol is released. In modern man this is a big problem. Our response to stress will often far exceed that required of the situation having severe consequences for our long term health.

The risk of hypertension and stroke increases. This is why exercise is great for alleviating the signs of stress. Excess fat and sugar in the bloodstream is used up by the muscles ensuring the blood flows more freely.

By keeping an eye on what we eat and drink we can do a lot to alleviate stress. The trouble is, stress often makes us consume the wrong types of food. This type of eating to alleviate stress is actually making the problem worse because it plays havoc with our blood-glucose levels, having a direct impact on the brain. In other words what we eat influences our stress levels which in turn has some bearing on what we eat. A very hard loop to break - one reason diets never work.

What is actually needed is a stress management program that restores the balance of life. And this means a lot more than dealing with the mind alone. Anyone serious about anti aging techniques should never underestimate the value of stress management.

Calorie Restriction

There is little question that reducing one’s calorie intake has a positive impact on longevity. Not just any calorie restriction based diet but one based on complex carbohydrates.Reducing calories but sticking to simple carbohydrates would surely shorten life expectancy. Nutrition is essential to human health and this is not found in flour, sugar and salt so common to the western diet.

Lab experiments have shown that mice on reduced calorie diets (containing vital nutrients) live much longer than mice on a normal dietThe mice in the calorie restricted group also maintained their youthful appearance and remained active for much longer.

In trials at Washington University adults with an average age of 55 kept their blood pressure as low as a 20 year old. Studies have also shown that calorie restriction reduces the bad cholesterol (LDL) while boosting the good cholesterol (HDL), lowers inflammation and reduces body mass index. Further, a reduction in insulin levels can both help prevent diebetes and improve memory. In other words calorie restriction coupled with a balance of vital nutrients is key to the fight against aging.

But why does a calorie restriction diet work?

By limiting dietary energy intake the body goes into survival mode by lowering metabolic rate.Because the production of free radicals is limited there is less damage to cellular structure. The added benefit of a diet based on complex carbohydrates is the increased consumption of anti-oxidants. Complex carbohydrates are mainly found in plant foods - they help to fight the free radicals and therefore prevent further cellular damage.

Key to reducing calories is ensuring the right balance of nutrients by following a mainly plant food diet. Studies throughout the world have shown that plant food diets reduce the risk of many diseases associated with affluent societies. In addition, youthful looks are maintained for much longer - great skin, hair and nails are just one benefit of a plant food diet. The nutritional aspects of our diet should always come before the need to reduce calories.

Present moment living

If you a looking for a true anti aging solution, look no further than the ability to live in the moment. Letting the future take care of itself and putting the past behind us, leaves no room for the negative emotions that are so damaging to our health. The present moment contains all the answers we need because now is all there is.

Living in this moment means all our awareness is focused on the current situation. We don’t dwell on the past, neither do we dwell on the consequences of our actions - we can’t know what the future holds so why waste our energy. It doesn’t mean we can do anything we please or that we should not plan. Awareness in the moment ensures the right thing to do is made clear to us, even if that means planning ahead! If someone makes the wrong choice it is generally because of the power time has over us and how the mind has been conditioned to think and act. If a person is trapped by mental time a person will base their decision on past experience and personal gain - with total disregard for what is happening now! Behavioural patterns are repeated over and over again as are the mistakes we make. Our mind constantly shifts between the past and future and thinks it normal. It clearly is not. After all, is there anything but the current moment?

It doesn’t take much to realise that all negative emotions are ultimately generated by the mind. The ability to know the current moment is to understand that love, beauty and peace are all there is. Only action based on these realities keeps people from aging prematurely. By escaping the illusion of mental time we escape the self generated aging process.

By practising forgiveness and being grateful for what you have now, you let the past go. By accepting the current moment and letting the future take care of itself you free yourself from frustration and stress. The more you live in the present the less you will age - time will have lost its grip on your life.

Varicose Veins Treatment with Laser

March 21st, 2009 by heart_health

It is not true that varicose veins only affect little old ladies. The number of woman who are afflicted with this undesirable problem is between 25 to 40 percent. This condition is not very often a medical concern. Some symptoms can show that there can be problems in the future and might indicate necessary treatment for the future.

If you are experiencing a heavy feeling and pain in your legs, it may mean that you need to look into varicose vein treatment. Another indication is pain in the legs. Commonly conservative management tricks like wearing support hose and evading being on your feet for a long time help eliminate these symptoms.
When this does not do it, then the doctor will probably recommend you to go for laser surgery.

Varicose Vein laser treatment works by pushing a small laser fiber through the skin and into a vein. The area is then heated with a thin laser and the vein shrinks. The laser only affects the blood and the blood vessel itself. The hotness destroys the cells that line the vein. It also effective seals the vein closed.

The majority of laser surgeries are done as an outpatient. You will be happy to know that it takes an amazingly short period of time to recover after the process. There are some people who say laser treatment causes swelling or redness in their skin after the procedure. Others notice tht the skin affected by the treatment is discolored. It will take more time. Performed properly, laser treatment leaves no scars and causes no burns.

Spend some time researching laser treatment at http://www.varicoseveintreatment.net if you want to have the procedure.

Things You Need to Know If You Want to Get 6 Pack Abs

March 19th, 2009 by heart_health

There are a lot of reasons why you may want to know how to get a six pack. You may want to have the ultimate symbol of health and fitness. You may want to be sexier because you know that six pack abs are the number one thing that women think is sexy. You may want to fit into last years jeans. You may want to feel good about accomplishing something that most men can’t. There are tons of other reasons that you could want to know how to get a six pack, but regardless of the reason, you can have what you desire.

Let’s start by talking about how your body builds muscle. We need to do that because your abdominal muscles really aren’t any different than any other muscle in your body. When you work a muscle really hard for a short period of time, usually by lifting a heavy weight around 10 times, your body’s natural response is to grow bigger muscles that can handle the short term duration. When you do an exercise many times, but without a lot of weight, your body responds by building strong but lean muscles that can handle long term exertion. Just think of a sprinter versus a marathon runner. Both are very strong, but in different ways. If you really want to know how to get a six pack, you have to build big muscles like a sprinter. If you happen to want a flat, tone stomach, you need to build strong, high endurance stomach muscles like a long distance runner.

Abdominal exercises for men who want to sport a six pack need to follow the same premise as building muscle anywhere else on your body. Doing ab exercises with weights is the way you build bigger muscles in your stomach. One good one is to do decline crunches while holding on to a weight plate. Try to do 3 sets of 10 to 15 repetitions. When this gets easy at one weight, start using a heavier weight. If you are doing leg lifts to build your lower abdominal muscles, use some ankle weights to make the exercises more difficult. Remember, do exercises that are challenging enough that you can’t do very many. This will force your muscles to respond by growing bigger and this will make your abdominal muscles bigger and that is what you need to sport a six pack.

The other obvious part of how to get a 6 pack is to lose the belly fat that is hanging around and covering up your abs. There are way too many tips and special diets to try to tell you which one will work for you. One simple tip that can cut hundreds or even thousands of calories a day from your diet is to ditch your sugary drinks with water. If you can eliminate your high calorie sweetened teas, sodas, milkshakes, and even sweetened fruit drinks, you will start losing weight. No matter what diet you choose, the goal is to reduce the number of calories you consume every day and water will help you do that. It will also make you feel full if you drink it right before a meal and this will help you eat less.

When you are ready to get serious, get the truth about how to get a six pack at www.BetterAbWorkout.com and get the information you really need to have to be successful. Start by downloading the free fat loss report then check out the whole program that has helped thousands of people get the wash board abs they have always dreamed of.

You should check with your doctor before starting any diet or exercise program to make sure there aren’t any hidden health issues you should know about. In most cases, there isn’t anything that will prevent you from exercising or dieting, but you should check to be sure.

Avoid heart disease

March 19th, 2009 by heart_health

Heart sickness is one of the leading causes of death in both men and women around the world. While many people fret about cancer or Alzheimer, hundreds of thousands of men and women around the world die of heart disease before they get to the age when Alzheimer becomes a problem.

Living in today’s world, one cannot help but hear stories of high blood pressure, heart attacks and other such problems related to the cardio-vascular system. However, these stories are so common that we no longer take them as seriously as we should and end up suffering from the diseases that we ignored.

Smoking is bad for you; everybody knows that.

Actually, smoking is high on the list of lifestyle choice that you should avoid if you value your health and, ultimately, your life. Among other bad things, smoking is the leading cause for high blood pressure and its consequences:

-strokes,
-heart attacks,
-heart failure,
-damage to the eyes and
-kidney failure.

If you think that smoking helps ease stress, then try and avoid things that stress you. We all have to make ends meet, but deliberately adding a health risk to your problems is not the answer.

Drinking is yet another way of getting yourself in heart troubles. And I don’t mean the romantic kind of heart troubles, although drinking has done this for some people. I mean the kind of heart troubles that get you a resting place six feet under ahead of the time.

The excess consumption of alcohol raises blood pressure and brings the same unpleasant consequences described above. And we’re not talking liver damage yet. A glass of wine once in a while is not a bad idea. A couple of glasses of gin or whiskey each day are a really bad idea. Not recommended.

And the third thing that you can do for yourself in order to stay healthy and avoid a while bunch of trips to the hospital is to follow a healthy diet and to exercise a couple of days every week.

A healthy diet does not mean that you have to give up all the foods that you love, but simply to eat in moderation and to replace fast food and snacks with fruit and vegetables. There are healthy alternatives to nearly everything.

And exercising doesn’t necessarily mean pumping iron at the gym. Walking or thirty minutes of aerobic exercises every other day can make a huge difference later on.

It really doesn’t take that much to lead a healthy life and get rid of bad lifestyle choices, especially since you’re doing this for your own good. Think again before lighting another cigarette, drinking another glass of alcohol or reaching out for a bag of snacks.

We are living in a culture that makes instant gratification very easy, but having to spend years worrying about your blood pressure later on is simply not worth it.

The potent acai berry contains ten times the amount of antioxidants found in grapes as well as twice the number common to a moderate-sized serving of blueberries. Strengthening its effective abilities to enhance and sustain good blood circulation as well as heart and artery health, Açaí juice also contains 10 to 30 times the amounts of anthocyanins (highly effective purple antioxidants) present in a single serving of red wine. The most popular and dynamic ultra natural vitamin and celebrity food found on the current natural health products market is, undoubtedly, the acai berry in its various marketed forms.
