Mobility for people dependent on an external oxygen supply used to be a great limitation, but with the new portable systems they can now achieve better lifestyles.
Portable Oxygen means you can leave the home, you can travel, you can work - and all these activities do add to and provide a better quality of life.
The official classification is that mobile oxygen systems are systems that weigh less than 10 lbs, portable weigh more.
The portable oxygen systems currently available are lighter than the previous ones, but also easy to use, to move around and their oxygen supply lasts longer.
Shape is one of the areas where the new models have brought some changes.
The older, larger type of oxygen tanks have been replaced (in the portable scenario) with lighter and slimmer cylinders that make it easier to carry, move and store.
Portable and mobile oxygen systems have evolved in recent times and are therefore giving patients a better lifestyle by allowing them greater mobility.
Older portable systems were heavier and bulkier and this made them difficult to carry and store, for example in public places, but these limitations have to a certain extent been overcome with the new designs available.
Shape, weight and size are some of the areas that have changed with portable oxygen tanks due to the new designs and materials available (for example aluminum tanks, which are lighter)and this means many patients can increase their activities, both on the carrying side of things and the storage in public side - without all the problems this could cause.

You have to understand depression before you can treat it.Depression troubles 15 million Americans every year, it’s not a joke. The most troubling aspect is that only about 1/3 of those people seek help. Too many Americans are still tarnished by the age-old stereotype associated with any mental illness.
Their character is so important that they don’t want a label like “crazy” to tarnish it. Diagnosis doesn’t happen while the sufferer hides the problem. It is a circle that continues to affect all the players involved.
Depression stems from many things. Biological, emotional, environmental and physical factors can result in depression . The genetic link cannot be ignored as well. Family history has a major part to play. It’s not just family history but also family dynamics. Daily life includes tremendous stress.
For some there is a constant struggle to survive from week to week. For others the stress comes from making it in the world. Then there are the circumstances where individuals have been abused physically, emotionally or sexually and are overcome with despair. The list goes on and on.
Depression Treatment
Depression is often hard to find in its early form. Even while a loved one suffers from this disease the signs may be hard to notice. Everyone gets down in the dumps once in a while. This is natural.
Real depression is a lot more permanent and serious. Early detection is no longer an option when your whole life begins changing. Loneliness and general disgust with life are common for depression sufferers. They no longer recognize any hope for their life. Sleep habits and enjoyment from life no longer exist. This is when treatment is critical.
In treating depression you have to reinstall hope and purpose into those that are suffering. This is typically achieved through ‘talk therapy’. This treatment can take months or years to bring about positive results but it is effective.
Anti-depressants like Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft, Lexapro, Celex, or Luvox can also help . These medicines are effective but they come with some side effects. There are also natural herbs that have been proven clinically to bring about positive results in treating depression as well. Another effective solution is a depression support group. Medical professionals should be consulted if you or someone you know shows symptoms of depression.

While diabetes is not actually a form of heart disease, it often contributes to heart disease. Diabetes occurs when a body is unable to produce or respond properly to insulin which is needed to regulate glucose (sugar). Besides contributing to heart disease, diabetes also increases the risks of developing kidney disease, blindness, nerve damage, and blood vessel damage.
There are two forms of diabetes to be aware of: juvenile diabetes (type 1) and adult-onset (tyle 2) diabetes. Adult-onset diabetes is associated with obesity and can be delayed or controlled with proper diet and exercise as opposed to medication. Juvenile Diabetes, on the other hand, is the result of the the body not producing proper levels of insulin and therefore requires medical intervention to correct the insulin imbalance.
Unfortunately, diabetes often goes undiagnosed because many of its symptoms seem so harmless. Recent studies indicate that the early detection of diabetes symptoms and treatment can decrease the chance of developing the complications of diabetes, such as heart related issues in the future.
Some diabetes symptoms include:
- Frequent urination
- Increased thirst
- Extreme hunger
- Unexplained weight loss
- Extreme weakness and fatigue
- Urinating at night (nocturnal enuresis)
- Blurred vision
- Numbness or tingling in the hands or feet
- Heavy or labored breathing
- Drowsiness or lethargy
- Fruity odor on the breath
If you should suspect that you, or someone close to you may be at risk, it’s important to seek medical help as soon as possible to avoid future complications.
