Heart Disease Treatment Widely Sought in Costa Rica

Costa Rica is starting to become a mecca for adult Women with heart Problems.

Though 73 % of girls know how to forestall heart problems, many are oblivious of how to treat it once a diagnosis has been made.

Darvocet Lawsuits Are Sure To Come

If you are suffering from mild to moderate pains, Darvocet or Darvon can help you. Darvocets are favored by medical experts over aspirins and narcotics because aspirins can be relatively weak while narcotics can be highly addictive. This drug became one of the most widely used medications in the United States from the time it was discovered.

Things took a different turn when the Food and Drug Administration requested for a recall on these products. A statement was released by the FDA stating that the major component of Darvocet which is propoxyphene can cause heart problems.

In Britain, Darvocet was banned around 2005 while the European Union banned the drug around 2009. So, this recall was seen as quite late by most people. This late recall was confirmed by Public Citizen, an advocacy group that has been petitioning for the banning of this product since 1978. Another petition was made by the group around year 2006 which still became unsuccessful. The recall is still something to be thankful for despite its lateness. This drug has allegations to have caused the overdose deaths of 589 individuals in the US and is also the cause of a lot of complications experienced by its users. This recall will help in sparing a lot of people to be affected.

A lot of different products had already been recalled by the FDA. These recalls have always followed a lot of lawsuits. The recalling of Darvocet are surely to be followed by a lot of people filing a Darvocet lawsuit.

A lot of people are affected of the Dravon recall which made them to be concern about the specifics for filing a Darvocet lawsuit. No Guarantees For People Affected By The DePuy Hip Replacement Recall

DePuy orthopaedics saw the need to make millions of hip implants from people who have been affected by hip disorders. These millions of hip implant this manufacturer has manufactured would have made them gain millions of profits if only they were responsible enough to not have sold them defective.

Last August 2010, a DePuy hip implant recall happened because it has been found out that a lot of hip implants manufactured by DePuy from July 2003 were faulty. A lot of complications were experienced by people who were using these implants. A hip revision surgery is advised to improve the condition of those people who are suffering from complications. In cases like these, we wish that manufacturers provide warranties for their product. DePuy guaranteed that their implants would last up to fifteen years, they should have provided a warranty in order to document this guarantee. The hip implants went bad despite using it for only five years, the warranty would have come in handy.

For people who have been experiencing complications, a medical assistance is the most important thing. We need to act fast because recent research on this issue has found out that heart problems can result from DePuy’s recalled hip implants.

Dr. Stephen S. Tower wrote in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery that heart problems can be caused by increased cobalt level in the blood. This shows a connection on the recalled hip implants because these hip implants contain cobalt. An increased amount of cobalt in the blood can make an implant user suffer from heart problems. The blood can have cobalt when metal components of the implant rubs into each other. For people who are using metal hip implants, the releasing of metal into the blood is natural. However, more metal is released when you are using a defective hip implant.

The Health Benefits of Drinking Wine (for your heart AND the rest of you!)

Studies show that red wine is effective in helping lower your bad cholesterol and raising your good cholesterol. Most of these scientific studies reveal that while white wine may help a little with cholesterol problems, it is the red wines and the ingredients from the skin of the grapes that help the most.

Now you are probably thinking “but white wine is derived from grapes with skin too” and yes, you are correct, but the factor that contributes to the difference in color is how the grapes are fermented. White wine is made from the same types of grapes as red wine, but during fermentation, the juice is strained away from the skins, leaving only the pure, nearly clear juice. The skins of the grape are what contain the highest concentration of polyphenols, which are potent antioxidants and the largest contributors to the heart healthiness of red wine.

Wine has been known to also have a positive effect on certain cancers, again, especially red wine. The antioxidants in the skins and seeds of the grape, which are used in the making of red wine, as well as other chemicals in the wine, may give you some amount of protection against the development and progression of some cancers.

Additionally, studies conducted to determine if there is a correlation between wine and mental health have shown that a glass of wine a day keeps the mind fresh.

The key to using wine to help your health is to drink it in moderation. Every study that links wine and good health makes a strong point of mentioning that you should only drink between 1 and 3 glasses of wine a day. Some recommendations are on the higher end, while others are on the lower end.

Diabetes: If Left Unchecked It May Effect Your Heart

While diabetes is not actually a form of heart disease, it often contributes to heart disease. Diabetes occurs when a body is unable to produce or respond properly to insulin which is needed to regulate glucose (sugar). Besides contributing to heart disease, diabetes also increases the risks of developing kidney disease, blindness, nerve damage, and blood vessel damage.

There are two forms of diabetes to be aware of: juvenile diabetes (type 1) and adult-onset (tyle 2) diabetes. Adult-onset diabetes is associated with obesity and can be delayed or controlled with proper diet and exercise as opposed to medication. Juvenile Diabetes, on the other hand, is the result of the the body not producing proper levels of insulin and therefore requires medical intervention to correct the insulin imbalance.

Unfortunately, diabetes often goes undiagnosed because many of its symptoms seem so harmless. Recent studies indicate that the early detection of diabetes symptoms and treatment can decrease the chance of developing the complications of diabetes, such as heart related issues in the future.

Some diabetes symptoms include:

  • Frequent urination
  • Increased thirst
  • Extreme hunger
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Extreme weakness and fatigue
  • Urinating at night (nocturnal enuresis)
  • Blurred vision
  • Numbness or tingling in the hands or feet
  • Heavy or labored breathing
  • Drowsiness or lethargy
  • Fruity odor on the breath

If you should suspect that you, or someone close to you may be at risk, it’s important to seek medical help as soon as possible to avoid future complications.

Finding Heart Healthy Foods

When it comes to heart healthy foods, choosing the right foods is not as hard as you might think. In general you should seek out foods that are low in cholesterol. This includes foods such as fruits and vegetables, whole wheats and items high in fiber.

Additionally, if you are planning a diet built around low cholesterol foods remember that water is a key ingredient to success. Drinking water will both make you feel full and fight bad cholesterol in your system.

Converting to a low cholesterol diet plan has many great effects. In addition to lowering your cholesterol, you may find that you feel more energized and happy. Plus, you are building up your immune system.

Low cholesterol foods are great for you all around, anyway you look at it. Lowering your cholesterol is never a bad thing, especially in older adults who are more prone to heart attacks or heart disease. Maintaining a diet containing low cholesterol foods will help you get on track to overall better health so eat up!

Keeping Your Kids “Heart Healthy”

Heart Health concern shouldn’t be limited to adults. Today, more and more kids are overweight and many are dealing with obesity which can have adverse effects on how their heart functions.
There have been so many technological advances that have made life easier today, which has been a great benefit, but as with anything, all the good doesn’t come without consequence and in this case it is laziness among many of today’s youth.
Here are some tips to ensure that your child is on track to keeping their heart healthy:
Get Out More
Today, kids are inside more than ever. With television, video games, computers, and a multitude of music players, kids do not feel much of a need to get outside to enjoy themselves. You should encourage your kids to get outside more. In fact, get out there and join them! Your heart matters too!
Get Involved in Sports
Sports are a great way for kids to get exercise (and they are fun). It may take some time for your kids to find a sport that they like but there are so many options that they are bound to find one that suits them.
Work
Working can also be a great heart healthy activity for kids. Of course, younger children cannot get your typically jobs. But many kids can do yard work or house work. These activities will keep them active, teach them work ethics and maybe even make them a little extra cash- what child doesn’t like that?
Be Creative
The point is to get your kids active so the options are endless. Your kids may not always be motivated to be active, but you can help them get into more healthy habits which will benefit them for years to come.

5 Simple Tips for a Healthy Heart

Making changes today can make all the difference to your heart now and in the future. Studies suggest that well over half of the heart attacks experieinced by people can be prevented through small lifestyle modification. Just follow these simple tips to be on your way to better cardiovascular health.

Don’t smoke

If you are a smoker, you need to quit now. The nicotine and other substances in cigarette smoke can seriously damage your cardiovascular system putting you at increased risk for heart attack.

Exercise

Aerobic exercise – any exercise that makes the heart and lungs work harder to supply the muscles with oxygen – is a great way to strengthen your heart. Studies show that individuals who perform some sort of regular exercise, including walking briskly (at least three miles per hour) as little as three hours per week, decrease their risk of heart attack by 30 to 40 percent. Furthermore, those who walked at the same pace five hours per week cut their risk in half! It is important to remember that your exercise routine can be broken down into 10- and 15-minute intervals.

Eat Healthy

A heart healthy diet is one that is balanced in calories and includes healthy amounts of fruits, vegetables, lean protein, whole grains and heart healthy fats.

Trans fats (found in margarines, fried foods and those containing “partially hydrogenated vegetable oil”) and saturated fats (found in red meats, butter, cheese and whole milk dairy products) raise the LDL (bad) cholesterol and should be limited. Replacing these fats with modest amounts of heart healthy oils including olive, canola, corn, safflower and sunflower oils, in addition to nuts and peanut butter is recommended.

Maintain a healthy weight

Being overweight can more than double your risk of heart disease and contributes to other factors that play a role in heart disease, such as blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

Know your numbers

By monitoring your blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose levels you should have a good idea of what your “numbers” are and that will enable you to make healthier nutrition choices
