There Are Advantages To Eating More Fruits And Vegetables.

July 20th, 2010 by heart_health

Vegetables and fruits, which are loaded with fiber and vitamins and minerals, have been proven to be healthy for us and to prevent many types of diseases. We haven’t always listened when we were told to eat more, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t take such advice to heart now that we are older.

And look at us now, surrounded by cheeseburger wrappings and french fry cartons, slurping on a milkshake for lunch and driving with the one finger that isn’t covered in ketchup. All right, most of us don’t consume fast food on a daily basis, but think about the times we just grab something that will fill us up quickly, such as a cookie, rather than grab a food that requires a bit of prep work, but is better for our bodies. Here is further info on fruit delivery.

An example of such a food would be grapes, or some kind of melon. With a quick rinsing off, these fruits are immediately available for snacking. Celery, carrots, or cauliflower with Italian dressing makes a salad. Studies have proven that we do not consume an adequate number of turnips or tomatoes. So to motivate people to develop healthier eating habits, we’re being reminded of the Five-a-Day campaign to help us pay more attention to our diets and challenge us to have five servings of fruits and vegetables daily.

IT might seem difficult to eat 5 fruits and veggies a day. But there are great and easy ways that you can help yourself eat more. Start a fruit bowl to keep at work. Add fruit to your morning oatmeal or muffins or yogurt. For later in the day when you crave a snack, take along a banana or apple to school or work.

It is also simple to get some vegetables into your diet. You can change out your fast food meal for a nice salad. When you are eating out and order a sandwich, ask for lettuce, tomatoes and sprouts to be added. You can add vegetables to baked goods, or use them as ingredients in stews and soups, and with sauces for meat. With this website you can get information on cherry online.

Celery with peanut butter or cream cheese is easy to do and it makes a savory snack for your afternoon break or an after-school treat for the kids. Since kids never seem to like anything for longer than a day anyway, simply make sure to offer them various foods. The usual parental threat is, “No dessert if you don’t eat your vegetables,” but that just makes vegetables seem more odious. I have often wondered what society would be like if we turned that around!

What if instead we said, ‘first, chocolate cake, then you can have those broccoli cuts? Do you like juice? That’s a great way to increase the number of vegetables and fruits in your diet. There is usually no fiber in fruit juices, however. The kids have a tendency to fill up on juice, resulting in their not eating their food. Juice is also much higher in calories than eating the vegetable or fruit.

But you can’t discount the many benefits fruit and vegetables provide. Increasing your fruit and vegetable intake can contribute to reducing your chances for contracting 14 types of adult onset cancer. But you have to get your five. Studies show that people getting their five have a better chance over those who are only consuming 2 servings a day. Are you at risk for blindness? How about a stroke? Worried about having a heart attack? If you’re not getting your fruits and veggies, then maybe you should be. Eating them lowers your risk.

We all know the importance of fruits and vegetables but still make up excuses for why we don’t eat better anyway. Some other excuses include that fruits and vegetables are too expensive while others are in to much of a rush to slice their strawberries. Still others claim that by the time they are ready to bite into a fresh piece of fruit, it has already rotted.
